You'll also notice that the Emit 20 has grille fixing sockets on both the front and rear of the cabinet, which is a little plain for this price but is a positive sonic addition in our opinion. The front of the Emit 20 is a little flat and a bit dull, but the back panel has a flared reflex port that looks solid enough.
With Little Dragon's "Paris" from Nabuma Rubberband, the Emit 20 put out a solid rhythm that was convincingly energetic and uplifting. There are some great vocals and guitars on this album, which the Emit 20 conveys with authority. They also bring a sense of command to the track that's hard to find in other speakers at this price point.
Dynaudio Emit 20 Features
The Dynaudio Emit 20 is a stand-mounted speaker that is designed to perform as part of a stereo or home cinema system in a small to medium-sized room. It is derived from the high-end Dynaudio Evoke, Contour I, and Confidence series and offers an impressive combination of detail and punches at an entry-level price point.
The Emit 20 features a 28mm soft dome Cerotar tweeter from Dynaudio's acclaimed top-of-the-range Evoke series, and comes with an ingenious Hexis internal dome to aid high-frequency dispersion. The Hexis also reduces standing waves and unwanted resonance, helping the tweeter to deliver transparent, sweet, and natural high frequencies.
As you'd expect from a Danish company, the Emit 20 doesn't skimp on quality, either. The bass is deep and controlled, the midrange has a pleasing slender presence and the highs are crystalline and detailed.
In terms of detail and depth, the Emit 20 is a step up from its predecessor. The new driver and surround ring give it much more control over the midrange, even at very loud levels. The woofer is also more powerful and delivers a cleaner, smoother bass response than the older model.
It's also the first Dynaudio speaker to feature a copper-coated aluminum voice coil, which is wound onto a fiberglass bobbin and is lighter than a standard copper voice coil so that more windings can be achieved without adding too much weight. This 'BL' (or magnetic power) boosts the driver's punch and dynamic ability, which is important for performance at low signal strengths.
Another major change from the previous model is the 18cm mid/bass woofer. It's a custom-sized and incorporated design, based on the same driver in Dynaudio's acclaimed range-topping Emit 50 three-way (PS1,750).
The woofer itself is made from a magnesium silicate polymer. This is a lightweight material, but it also has good stiffness and stability. The MSP is also resistant to oxidation and is reportedly more durable than aluminum or plastic cones.
While the woofer isn't as big or powerful as the woofers found in some rival speakers like the KEF LS50 Meta, the Emit 20 still manages to fill most rooms with a sound that's clean and well-extended at lower frequencies. This is a real advantage in rooms with a lot of wall-mounted and floor-standing furniture that might otherwise be difficult for a stand-mount loudspeaker to compete with.
