This new series consists of four models: the Platinum 300 3G flagship floor-stander; the mid-sized Platinum 200 3G floor-stander; the Platinum 100 3G bookshelf; and the center-channel Platinum 250 3G, all of which host either two-channel hi-fi systems or multi-channel home theatre systems.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe flagship PL300 II tower speaker is available in Ebony or Piano Black gloss lacquer finishes and comes with a hand-upholstered front baffle in high-quality Inglestone leather supplied by Andrew Muirhead. These are affixed to the cabinet with bolt-through construction that enables uniform clamping of each driver without the use of mounting rings.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFEA optimization has also been applied to the design of the crossover network, which uses air-core inductors in the midrange and tweeter sections; laminated steel-core inductors for the bass section; and custom-made capacitors of metalized polypropylene. These are then wired to the drivers via innovative, rhodium-plated terminals milled from solid copper and capable of accepting spades, 4mm banana plugs, or bare wires.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA new generation of RDT bass and midrange drivers have been employed on all three speakers in the Platinum II line, complemented by a Micro Pleated Diaphragm (MPD) tweeter that eliminates the null created by conventional dome tweeters when they're used at low frequencies. It works by squeezing the diaphragm's pleats, much like an accordion, to give a response that's class-leading to 100,000Hz.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe midrange driver, too, has been upgraded, featuring larger Neodymium magnets, an underhung edge-wound voice coil, a Dynamic Coupling Filter (DCF) mechanism to control cone breakup, and a new motor system. Its enclosure is also designed to minimize internal standing waves, which can cause modal resonances and interfere with the sound of the bass driver.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat's more, the tweeter has been designed specifically for the Platinum range to ensure that it has a smooth, linear response that doesn't deteriorate as the frequency rises. The MPD tweeter is a ribbon design whose thin diaphragm is made from C-CAM alloy, a material Monitor says has a mass of 18 milligrams.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFinally, the new treble driver has been optimized to maximize its sensitivity and power handling. Its neodymium magnets produce a magnetic field that's more than three times that of the previous version, and the PL300 II has a specially designed tapered line enclosure (TLE) cast from ARC to isolate the treble from the rest of the speaker.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe PL300 II is an unashamedly luxurious, technically ambitious speaker.
