A projector that has grown louder is telling you about heat, and the message is usually about the filter rather than the fan.

The chain is simple. Dust settles on intake filters and heatsinks, cooling efficiency drops, the projector's temperature sensor asks the fans to spin harder, and you hear it. The fan is doing its job; the question is why it has to work so hard.

The order I check in:

Filter. If your model has a user-accessible intake filter, clean it. Indian rooms clog filters far faster than the service-interval assumptions in the manual, which were written somewhere with less dust and no ceiling fan stirring it about. Monthly during the dry season is not excessive.

Environment. A projector boxed into a shelf or a tight ceiling enclosure recirculates its own hot exhaust and will always run loud, however clean the filter. Give the exhaust a clear path and the intake room to breathe; the manual states the clearances and they are not decorative.

Picture mode. High-brightness modes run the light source hotter and the fans louder by design. In a properly dark room, eco mode is often plenty and cuts the noise noticeably. Try it before assuming a fault.

Altitude and temperature settings. Some projectors have a high-altitude or high-temperature mode that runs the fans harder as a precaution. If it was set for a reason, leave it; if it was set by accident, that is your noise. Set them for the conditions you actually have.

Now the exception. Noise that rises despite a clean filter and good airflow, especially with a grinding, ticking or rattling character rather than a smooth rush of air, is a bearing or blower ageing. That is authorised service, sooner rather than later. A fan is cheap; the light source it protects is not, and the next casualty of failed cooling is the lamp or laser module.

Not sure which you are hearing? A short voice note of the noise from close to the projector, plus the model number, is usually enough for us to tell fan from filter.
