JBL K2 S9900 Overview

This is one of the most impressive 'Project' models from JBL, as it comes from the parent company Harman International's high-performance AV division that demonstrates cutting-edge technology in specialized products [see boxout]. JBL K2 S9900 Features
The K2 S9900 utilizes a large rear-ported paper-coned bass driver which works all the way to 900Hz, with a 10cm magnesium compression driver covering treble frequencies up to 15kHz - then, at this point, a 25mm beryllium super tweeter is brought in to cover an additional two octaves. The combination of these horn-loaded drivers and the single midrange crossover is said to produce stereo images with utmost refinement, naturalism, and dimensionality.
The K2 is a big, wide speaker that is designed to be handled by high-quality amplifiers. It can be bi-amplified and has separate high and low-frequency crossover networks, with an easy-going 8-ohm nominal impedance that drops to 7 ohms when the amplification is cranked up. It has a claimed 93dB sensitivity and 500W power handling, which makes it a dream boat for tube amplifiers and lower-power Class A solid-state designs.
It's no secret that horn speakers can be less than ideal when it comes to a smooth frequency response, but this pair proves that doesn't have to be the case. The front baffle is curved to provide good horn dispersion, with the top and bottom sections of the Sonoglas horn made using precision-molded glass.
The big 15-inch bass driver can be heard at the back of the room and in some parts of the ceiling, and it's very well controlled. That's important in a speaker of this size, as it allows the bass to be heard clearly, but without introducing too much treble distortion.
That's a very important thing to ensure, as too much treble distortion can ruin the balance of the bass and treble, but also can introduce unwanted coloration to the sonic image. The K2 S9900 delivers a very smooth, coherent sound at all times.
