From an authorised channel, three things: manufacturer warranty through the India distributor, help with genuine spares later, and a dealer who picks up the phone. Outside the authorised channel, expect none of it, and plan accordingly.

The phone part matters more than people expect. Most "faults" in a home theatre are not faults. They are setup problems: a centre channel set to Large, a subwoofer crossed at 40 Hz because the auto-calibration mic caught a lucky room mode, an HDMI handshake that fails because the TV's enhanced input mode was never enabled, or a projector that goes dark on 4K HDR because the cable is not certified for the bandwidth. A good dealer resolves that kind of thing in one call, sometimes with a photo of the AVR's speaker settings screen. A bad one tells you to visit the service centre. The service centre will find nothing wrong, and they will be right.

The warranty part is the boring backbone. Through the authorised distributor, a genuine failure gets logged against a serial number the distributor recognises, and repair or replacement follows the brand's India policy. Warranty terms are as per brand or distributor policy, and they differ from what the same brand promises abroad, so read the Indian terms rather than the global page.

Spares matter later than you think. Remotes go missing, feet break in a house move, a speaker grille gets a football through it. A dealer with a distributor relationship can source those. Outside the channel, you are searching import sites for a part number.

What to ask any seller before buying: who exactly do I call if this fails in month eight? A specific answer with a name is a good sign. "Don't worry, we are always there" is not an answer; it is a mood.

Our after-sales runs on WhatsApp for the setup questions and through the distributor for the hardware ones, and we stay in the loop for the second part. That is what authorised means in practice: someone in India whose problem it still is after the courier leaves.
