Adept Audio 1080 Overview
The DN1080 was able to bring Dolby Atmos and DTS:X soundtracks to life in a very enjoyable way, creating an incredibly immersive experience that's ideal for watching films in your living room. In particular, both Blade Runner 2049 and its sequel were a joy to listen to, with Vangelis's music bringing the sounds of rain pouring down on both front and rear channels to the fore.
The DN1080 was also an incredibly easy receiver to set up, with a simplified back panel and a straightforward user interface that took us through the whole process in no time at all. There's also a handy audio calibration feature that optimizes the sound using an included stereo microphone.
Adept Audio 1080 Features
Adept Audio 1080 is a high-quality AV receiver that offers plenty of useful features for the average consumer. Its main selling point is support for Dolby Atmos and DTS: X. In addition to this, the DN1080 also supports 4K at 60P and 4:4:4 and HDCP 2.2.
The DN1080 isn't the most attractive-looking receiver we've ever seen, but its internal construction is pretty impressive. It's packed with class-leading components, including a 32-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC), three digital signal processors (DSPs), and a glass-epoxy circuit board for the power amplifier. It also has a localized analog power supply and a large-capacity power transformer.
The receiver supports 5.1, 7.1, and 5.1.2 speaker configurations as well as two subwoofers. In fact, it can even run a 7.1.2 system with a little bit of acoustic processing - although the rear channels would only be delivered through psychoacoustics rather than speakers.
The Sony DN1080 handled multi-channel soundtracks with a natural fidelity that allowed the dialogue to remain clear, whilst effects were steered around the room with a pleasing degree of accuracy. It worked especially well with film soundtracks, particularly Blade Runner 2049 and its sequel, where Vangelis's haunting score is beautifully realized with a great sense of depth.
