How do I actually get Dolby Atmos from Netflix or Prime Video in India?

Four conditions, all required, and the system will fail silently if any one of them is missing. That silence is why this is one of our most common WhatsApp questions.

First, the title carries Atmos in India. Catalogues differ by region, and the app shows a Dolby Atmos badge on the title page when it does. No badge, no Atmos, however good the speakers.

Second, your plan includes it. Netflix restricts Atmos to its top tier, so check current terms on their site rather than assuming. For other apps, the title page is the source of truth.

Third, the playback device supports it. This is the one that catches people. Atmos support is per app per device: the Netflix app on your particular TV, stick or box may or may not pass it, and the same app on a different box behaves differently. A TV that supports Atmos in one app can lack it in another. The device's own spec page and the app's supported-devices list are what to check, not the box art.

Fourth, the audio path carries it. Either the device feeds the AVR directly over HDMI, or it feeds the TV and the TV passes Atmos back to the AVR over eARC. Ordinary ARC will not carry the full Atmos stream from these apps in most cases, and a TV that lacks eARC, or has it on a port you are not using, will quietly hand the AVR plain 5.1.

When any link fails, nothing tells you. The AVR simply decodes whatever it received, the display reads Dolby Digital or PCM, and the height speakers sit there looking decorative. "I have Atmos speakers but never see the logo" is almost always link three or four.

What to do: check the AVR's front display or info screen while a badged title plays and read what format it says it is receiving. That single step tells you whether the problem is upstream of the AVR or in your expectations of the title.
