Asked by a buyer comparing two shortlists.
Price alone answers nothing. Compare the two systems in your room, by where the money sits, by sound character, and only then by the boring but important things.
A real buyer of ours held two of our own quotes: a premium European-speaker build and a horn-loaded American build, some way apart in price. The method we walked him through works for any pair, including one of ours against someone else's.
First, normalise the room. Both systems in your room, not the demo room. The bigger system in a too-small room is the worse system: too much bass energy exciting room modes, speakers too close to boundaries, and no distance for the drivers to integrate. Conversely, small satellites in a 25-foot open-plan lounge run out of output before the film gets interesting.
Second, where does the money sit? Work out what fraction of each quote is speakers versus electronics versus accessories. A quote heavy on electronics and light on speakers usually loses, because speakers are where the differences are large and audible, and amplifiers above a certain competence sound more alike than different. A quote heavy on cables is telling you something too.
Third, sound character rather than spec sheets. The two builds sounded distinctly different: one warm and precise, one dynamic and punchy. Neither is wrong. "Better" is your ears' call, and it should be made with your kind of content, at your kind of volume. High-sensitivity horn-loaded speakers make a mid-range AVR sound powerful; lower-sensitivity speakers ask more of the amplifier and give a different kind of refinement in return. Know which trade you are making.
Fourth, the unglamorous list: warranty per brand as per brand or distributor policy, service reachability in your city, and upgrade paths (can you add a stereo amp later, or a second sub, without replacing the lot?).
Bring us any two quotes, ours or another dealer's against ours, and we will do this comparison with you line by line. If the other quote is the better fit for your room, I would rather say so than win the wrong sale.
