B&W PI7 Overview
You don't need to worry about audio quality, either, thanks to the PI7's support for high-resolution audio codecs. They're compatible with MP3, WMA, and AAC files at 16-bit resolutions, and they can be paired with analog sources via the included 3.5mm or USB-C to 3.5mm adapter.
They also have a lot of battery life, with four hours per charge – that drops to just under two when you're listening to music or on calls. It's not as impressive as the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds or Sennheiser HD600s, but it's better than the Sony Wireless Pro and Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro, which both only offer three hours per charge.
B&W PI7 Features
Several features in the PI7 make it stand out from other true wireless headphones. For example, it supports a wider range of Bluetooth codecs than most others and can be paired with Android phones using Google FastPair. It also has a charging case that can retransmit audio over USB-C or 3.5mm cables, which is useful for situations where you don't have access to a Bluetooth source or want to use your phone while traveling.
The PI7 uses a hybrid driver setup that includes dynamic speakers and armature drivers, which B&W describes as "tiny versions of regular speakers that process the bass and mid-range separately." These drivers are designed to provide a more balanced sound than their counterparts on the original PI7.
This sonic combination means the PI7 delivers impressively accurate sound, with plenty of punchy basses. They're also pretty clear in their soundstage, giving a large sense of depth to the left and right channels.
Another quite useful PI7 feature is the ambient pass-through, which enables you to hear the sounds around you while still wearing the headphones. This is something that's not available on many other premium earbuds, so it's a great extra.
It can be adjusted via a slider in the downloadable B&W Headphone app (iOS and Android), or you can switch it to auto noise-canceling, which alters the level of cancellation based on your environment. There's a six-sound library of nature backgrounds to choose from too, which can be triggered to help you relax during a hectic day.
Aside from the ambient pass-through, there's also an ANC-on-off switch in the case that lets you set a constant ANC level to keep things quiet. This is a nice, easy-to-use feature that's not found on most other earbuds, so it's worth a look if you're looking for a pair of earbuds that can block out the world.
The PI7 has a decent set of controls, with the touch-sensitive controls on the right-hand side of the case being responsive and simple to operate. They're also pretty tactile, so they're easier to use if you don't like the 'push-in' nature of many earbuds.
They're comfortable to wear, too, although they can sometimes feel a little bulky in the ears when worn for long periods. I found the PI7s a good fit for me, with the three ear tips that come with them helping to ensure a snug and secure fit.
